Dress Purple Day and Child Abuse Prevention Month effective in spreading the word

The month of October was Child Abuse Prevention Month, with October 24 as its key event day, Dress Purple Day. Students, teachers, child and youth workers, and many other people who care about child welfare across Ontario wore purple to raise awareness about how it takes a village to keep kids safe. You can see photos on twitter by searching the hashtag #IBREAKthesilence. Schools across Hamilton also delivered age-appropriate lessons to their students about the signs and prevention of child abuse.

We were happy to work with  the Children’s Aid Society of Hamilton, Hamilton Wentworth Catholic District School Board, Hamilton Wentworth District School Board, Le Conseil scolaire Viamonde, Le Conseil scolaire MonAvenir,  the Hamilton Police Service, and the City of Hamilton which lit City Hall purple on the evening of October 24.
