It was inspiring to see all the photos on social media yesterday showing solidarity for those affected by the tragedy in Humboldt. Some of our staff wore their #JerseysForHumboldt yesterday, and all of us kept the families in our thoughts.
You probably haven’t heard of CPIN, but in the child welfare sector in Ontario, it’s a big deal. The Child Protection Information Network is an integrated information management system that all Children’s Aid Societies in Ontario will be using by 2021. It will make it easier and faster for CASs to work together to keep kids safe.
Our launch date is this Monday, April 16. We have been preparing for over a year for this date, and with only 6 sleeps to go, we are ready! As our staff make the switch to this new system over the next couple of weeks, please have patience with us if our response times are slightly slower than usual. Our emergency response times will not be affected!
Thanks to our hardworking CPIN Team for preparing us for launch! And to the OACAS and the Ministry of Children and Youth Services for their guidance and leadership. Wish us luck!
Every year, just before the Easter weekend, we take time to recognize the service of our staff. Our social workers do hard work in our community to help children be safe and thrive and to empower families. Other staff support this work in ways that are often unseen but are no less important.
We gather on Thursday, March 29 to acknowledge service milestones and to celebrate being together.
This quote from Pope Francis perfectly sums up our hopes for all our staff at the holiest time in the Catholic calendar. “In the complex and often dramatic situations of today’s world, may the Risen Lord guide the steps of all those who work for justice and peace.” We are grateful to all our staff for their important contributions to the wellbeing of our community.

Ontario has just released its 3-year Anti-Racism Plan, called A Better Way Forward. It targets systemic racism in government policies, decisions and programs so that everyone can fulfill their unique potential and fully participate in society.
Systemic racism — including anti-Black racism, anti-Indigenous racism, Islamophobia and racisms experienced by other racialized communities — is deeply entrenched into our day-to-day lives and the institutions we rely on for critical public services. It creates a further gap between the privileged and the disadvantaged. We agree that this is not acceptable, and that we all need to change the way we do things and break down barriers to advance racial equity.
You can read the entire plan at https://www.ontario.ca/page/better-way-forward-ontarios-3-year-anti-racism-strategic-plan.
