October 14 – 20 is Foster Family Appreciation Week!

We recognize the inspiring contributions of our foster families during National Foster Family Appreciation Week. At our annual Foster Parent Recognition Dinner on Friday, October 19, all our foster families will be thanked, and special recognition will be given to those who have reached milestone years of service, including special recognition of foster parent Rita Mooney for 50 years of service! Rita received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Foster Parents Society of Ontario earlier this year, in recognition of the excellence and duration of her service.

Be sure to check out the new video on our homepage about fostering with our agency. Some of our foster parents speak about the rewards of fostering, and information is provided about how to get involved in fostering.

September 25 is Franco-Ontarian Day!

September 24 – 29 is Kinship Week!

Kinship Week is an opportunity to build awareness about the value of kinship care for children and youth. Kinship is a living arrangement in which a child that needs to leave its family for safety reasons lives with someone who is known to the family – relatives, friends, neighbours, teachers, etc. In Ontario, approximately 25% of children and youth needing out-of-home placements are living with kin. This percentage is growing every year.

It’s also an opportunity for us to thank the roughly 150 kin families we work with who are providing care and nurturance for children and youth while the issues that have brought their families to our attention are resolved. Your love and commitment is truly amazing, and we are truly grateful!

65 Years of Brighter Futures!

This fall marks the 65th anniversary of the Catholic Children’s Aid Society of Hamilton!  From our beginnings in 1953 with 3 staff and a $27,000 budget, to today with 180 staff and a $24 million budget, we have supported thousands of children, youth and families in their search for a brighter future.

We will be celebrating all fall. On October 21, an Anniversary Mass will be held at the Cathedral-Basilica of Christ the King at 4 pm, and everyone is welcome. At that time, we will also be releasing a publication to reflect on 65 years of brighter futures.

For more information about our anniversary and the activities planned to commemorate it, please visit this link on our website.

Be part of a child’s story through adoption

The Catholic Children’s Aid Society of Hamilton is hosting an information session for anyone who is interested in finding out more about adoption and the adoption process. There is a high need for adoptive parents who are ready, willing, and able to meet the needs of older children, large sibling groups, or those with complex medical, developmental, and behavioural needs.

DATE: September 19, 2018

TIME: 7:00 – 9:00 pm

LOCATION: Catholic Children’s Aid Society of Hamilton, 735 King St. E., Hamilton ON

REGISTRATION: Pre-registration is preferred, by calling 905-525-2012 and asking for the Adoption Unit

Every child and youth needs and deserves permanent, lifelong connections to flourish. Adoption is one of a number of options that Children’s Aid Societies consider when looking for lifelong connections for children in care. There is an extensive training and support network in place to assist adoptive parents in becoming prepared and confident to meet children’s needs.
