Our Functions

The Functions of a Children's Aid Society, as set out in the (Ontario) Child and Family Services Act include:

  • To investigate allegations and or evidence that children, who are under the age of sixteen or who are in its care, may be in need of protection;
  • To protect, where necessary, children who are under the age of sixteen or who are in its care or under it's supervision;
  • To provide guidance, counseling and other services to families for protecting children or the prevention of circumstances requiring the protection of children;
  • To provide care for children assigned or committed to its care;
  • To supervise children assigned to its supervision; and
  • To place children for adoption.

All to be performed according to prescribed standards, procedures and practices.

Guided by Catholic values and teachings; a fundamental belief in strengthening families; and the mandate of the laws of Ontario, the mission of the Catholic Children's Aid Society of Hamilton is to protect and advocate for the well-being of children within the City of Hamilton.

The Catholic Children's Aid Society of Hamilton will:

  • Protect, promote and support the best interests of children, guided by Catholic values and teachings
  • Strive to ensure that children live in a secure, nurturing, loving environment and, when possible, within their own families
  • Deliver the highest quality service possible through staff, foster parents, adoptive parents, volunteers and other partners in the community
  • Continue to monitor promote and evaluate fulfillment of the Mission of the Society
